Home / World / The USA Predicts Gas Quotas for Europe
Due to the lack of gas, European countries will have to distribute gas according to quotas or buy at an inflated price, Hochstein believes. In the coming heating season, European countries may face the need to distribute gas according to quotas due to its shortage. Adviser to the US President on energy security issues Amos Hochstein expressed this opinion in an interview with Bloomberg TV. “If the winter is colder than usual, we will not have enough gas for heating several parts of Europe,” Hochstein said. He noted that in view of the gas shortage, a number of countries will have to buy it at an inflated price, and the rest will have to distribute gas according to quotas. Hochstein believes that the Russian Federation is using the current situation to persuade Europe to launch Nord Stream-2 as soon as possible. Adviser to the US president noted that the capacities of the Ukrainian gas transportation system allow delivering more gas than is being delivered now. Remember that recently the Russian Gazprom decided not to book additional transit capacity through Ukraine for October. This led to increase in the cost of gas up to $ 900 per thousand cubic meters. Gazprom estimates that the backlog of gas injection into European UGS is 22.9 billion cubic meters.
